We Offer
You can rely on us to take care of your pet's health, from advice on raising a happy puppy or kitten, through nutritional counselling and thoughtfully designed vaccination protocols, to dealing with complex medical issues that involve advanced diagnostics and treatments.
Preventative Care
Preventative veterinary care is a set of measures we take in close collaboration with the pet parents to keep the four-legged family members healthy and prevent diseases rather than treating them after they occur. By providing regular check-ups, vaccinations, and other preventative measures, we ensure that patients in our care live longer, healthier lives.
The key components of preventative veterinary care include regular check-ups, vaccination, age and lifestyle-appropriate blood, urine and fecal testing and screening, parasite prevention and dental care.
-
Regular comprehensive exams
Like humans, pets need regular check-ups to maintain good health. Our veterinarians can detect potential health problems early on during these visits and provide treatment before they become more serious. All aspects of the pet's well-being are discussed during these visits, including nutrition, exercise, and our pets' mental health issues. These exams are specific to the age and the life stage the pet is in.
-
Vaccinations
Vaccinations are an important part of preventative veterinary care, as they help protect pets from various diseases, including rabies, distemper, and parvovirus…. The vaccination protocols for each pet are decided based on the latest recommendations from the AHAA and the individual pet's lifestyle.
In cases when vaccination is not an option or for other reasons, our doctors may suggest a blood test for antibody titer. This is a measurement of the number of antibodies in a pet’s blood, and it is done to assess the immune response to an infection or vaccination.
-
Parasite prevention
Parasites such as intestinal parasites, fleas, ticks, and heartworms can cause various ranges of health problems for pets, from skin irritation, anemia, chronic conditions and even death. Regular preventative testing (fecal and blood testing) and preventative treatments can help keep parasites at bay.
Some of the parasites our four-legged family members carry can affect our health too. For example, fleas can carry diseases like bubonic plague and typhus, and ticks can transmit Lyme disease and babesiosis. Intestinal parasites such as roundworms and hookworms can also be transmitted to humans, causing illness.
-
Dental care
Just like humans, pets can suffer from dental problems like bad breath, gum disease, cavities, and painful periodontal disease with consequent loss of teeth. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings can help prevent these issues.
Medical services
We are a full-service clinic equipped to handle a wide variety of medical conditions, including emergencies. Since we perform most procedures and diagnostics in-house, we are often able to provide immediate diagnoses and start treating your pet faster. However, there are some cases where your pet may require further medical intervention.
Please call us if the medical services you're interested in aren't listed below or if you'd like to discuss your pets needs in more detail.
-
Laboratory
Our on-site laboratory gives us a valuable advantage in obtaining crucial information for fast and accurate diagnosis, allowing prompt and adequate treatment of our patients. The results of hematological and biochemical blood analysis, urinalysis, and many cytology examinations are available on the same day, often within an hour. Our doctors will explain the findings and suggest the best next steps.
-
Radiology
Diagnostic imaging is often a critical step in diagnosing a variety of health conditions including bone fractures, dislocations, arthritis, intestinal obstructions, urinary stones, broncho-pulmonary diseases and countless others. Our digital x-ray equipment allows us to build same-day treatment plans based on the findings from these sharp and detailed images.
-
Surgery
Our doctors perform a wide variety of surgeries - from routine spays and neuters, to lump removals and tumour resections, intestinal and urinary tract surgery as well as minor ophthalmological procedures. For more complex cases, such as orthopaedic of neurosurgical procedures, we provide referrals to board-certified specialists. When it comes to patient safety and comfort, we adhere to the highest professional standards for all our patients that undergo general anaesthesia - from thorough pre-surgical assessment (including bloodwork), through careful monitoring of the anesthesia and vital parameters by our RVTs, to continuous IV fluids, multimodal pain control protocols etc. We make sure our surgical patients recover comfortably in a warm and welcoming environment and that they are always closely watched and pampered.

Veterinary Dentistry
Dental problems can have a significant impact on our furry family member's overall health and well-being. Dental issues such as tooth decay, gum disease, and oral infections can cause pain, discomfort, and difficulty eating or drinking. Dental problems can affect other organs, such as the heart, liver, and kidneys, and may even lead to more serious health issues. At Prince Edward Animal Clinic, we believe prevention is of utmost importance, as regular dental check-ups and cleanings can help prevent dental problems from developing. At the same time, proper treatment can relieve pain and improve our pet's quality of life.
At Prince Edward Animal Clinic, we routinely perform dental procedures that range from prophylactic cleaning to more involved oral procedures, such as extractions, fistular repairs and oral soft tissue surgery.
-
Pharmacy
Our clinic maintains a well-supplied pharmacy capable of dispensing medication as soon as prescribed. We carry a range of medications, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and nutritional supplements specifically formulated for pets. We also offer compounded medication tailored to a specific pet's needs or to provide medication in alternate forms, such as treats like flavoured chewable tablets, trans-dermal medication or liquids, for easier administration.
-
Specialist Referrals
Just like in human medicine, there are medical conditions that exceed the scope of general practice and require advanced diagnostic or therapeutic technology and specialized training. Such examples are neurology, ophthalmology, oncology, cardiology etc. When needed, we will arrange and facilitate referrals to board-certified specialists at one of the major referral centres in the area. Even more conveniently, we arrange on-site cardiology assessments (with echocardiogram and ECG) at Prince Edward Animal Clinic by a visiting board-certified cardiologist, as well as abdominal, thoracic and other ultrasound exams performed by a veterinary ultrasonographer at our clinic.
Additional Services
We are here to provide assistance with any of your four legged family member's needs, whether it's obtaining a travel certificate, addressing nutrition or behavioural concerns.
-
Nutritional counselling
Choosing the right diet for your pet is important because it can impact their overall health and prevent many medical issues such as diabetes, urinary tract problems, skin and coat disorders, pancreatitis, and heart disease. Providing a balanced and appropriate diet can also help your pet maintain a healthy weight, which can contribute to a longer and happier life.
We offer consultations to address diet and nutrition concerns, including obesity, weight loss, and nutritional deficiencies. During regular wellness exams, we assess your pet's weight and discuss their nutrition and lifestyle. We can recommend a specific diet and create a personalized nutritional plan to help your pet achieve a healthy weight through diet, exercise, supplements, and treats.
-
Prescription diets
Veterinary prescription diets are specially formulated to address specific health issues or medical conditions in pets, such as kidney disease, urinary tract problems, food allergies, and obesity. These diets can help manage or even treat the condition, and our veterinarians will often recommend them as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. Prescription diets are formulated with precise levels of nutrients and ingredients to ensure they are safe and effective for pets with medical issues. They are available exclusively through veterinarians to ensure proper use and monitoring. At Prince Edward Animal Clinic, we offer carefully selected veterinary-line food options that can address specific health conditions and needs.
-
Diatery supplements and dermatological products
Dietary supplements are products designed to supplement a pet's diet with additional nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, and other dietary ingredients. These supplements may be recommended by veterinarians to address specific health issues or to support overall wellness. For example, some supplements may be recommended to support joint health, promote healthy skin and coat, or aid digestion.
Dermatological products are products specifically designed to treat skin conditions and disorders in animals. These products may include shampoos, conditioners, topical creams, and oral medications. They are typically formulated with ingredients that can help soothe irritated skin, reduce inflammation, control itching, and promote healthy skin and coat. Some common skin conditions that may require the use of veterinary dermatological products include allergies, infections, parasites, and autoimmune disorders. A veterinarian typically prescribes these products and should only be used under their guidance and supervision. -
Behavioural counselling
In the challenging times we live in, many of us experience difficulties coping with the pace of life and the stress that often face. This had just gotten worse with the changes in our everyday lives brought on by the recent pandemic. It is not better for our four-legged family members. They live through these challenges with us and often suffer consequences. At Prince Edward Animal Clinic, we see a notable increase in behaviour problems with our patients. As mental illness became more and more in focus lately on the human side, with our furry companions, behavioural disorders such as anxieties, socialization problems, and others turned quite common. Our doctors and our team are here to help you. Through behavioural counselling, we will work with you to overcome these challenges – this may include repeated visits with your pet, learning behaviour-modifying techniques, and using supplements or medications. At times we might suggest working closely with a dog trainer and, with more challenging cases, provide referrals to board-certified veterinarians specialized in behaviour.

Pet travel documents
International travel with furry family members might be quite complicated nowadays. Each country has different regulations, and these are strictly enforced. We will gladly help you in this process by providing the necessary documentation. Please plan well ahead and try to be well-informed about the possible requirements for entering the country of your destination (talking to the embassy and to a Canadian Food Inspection Agency office). We need to start the process early enough to ensure all expectations are met and that we can prepare the paperwork in time and without causing stress right before departure. We need to have complete information about your pet’s vaccination history, microchip etc. Some countries require blood tests, anti-parasite treatments and other procedures, performed following a strict schedule. Please share the details about your itinerary and the dates with us when you call to schedule a travel-related visit – this will help the process go smoothly.
